The New Inn Ale & Music Festival gets under way on Tresco today with a great selection of ales on offer combined with live music from some of Scilly's best known bands.

There will be 15 real ales on offer including treats from the local Ales of Scilly brewery and Cornish favourites from Truro, Bodmin and Skinners breweries, plus bottled varieties from as far afield as China and Brazil.

The kitchen staff will be getting in the mood by preparing a specials menu on Friday and Saturday night where every dish will contain an element of beer.

The popular Steamband will kick things off on the music front this evening. Other acts include Louella Jade Eke on Sunday, The Pie Trio on Monday and an Open Mic night to round off the festival on Tuesday.

Robert Letherbarrow from The New Inn said: “Our Ale Festival weekends are among my favourite times of the year at The New Inn. The pub really comes alive with a great mix of people all having a great time in a warm atmosphere, sampling our fine ales and great food and enjoying the live music.

“This weekend the weather is looking a bit variable but the Driftwood Bar is the perfect place to enjoy the ales and live music, and as soon as the sun does come out you know the beer garden will be full of people making the most of it!”

There will be further music on Wednesday night when local favourites Swag Buoys take to the stage following the Gig racing which finishes on Tresco.
