Amanda Martin and Steve Sims have been re-elected to their respective positions of Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Council of the Isles of Scilly.

At last night’s annual meeting of Full Council, Mrs Martin stood unopposed while Mr Sims held off a challenge from former Vice-Chairman Gaz O’Neil.

In other business the Medium Term Capital Programme was approved by all members except Fran Grottick, who asked that her vote be recorded.

Senior Manager for Finance, Ben Barrett described the programme as ‘a preferred list; not the commitment of the Authority and each item will be brought before the relevant committee’.

Councillor Grottick said she would not be ‘an entrepreneur with public money’.

Former Chairman and member for St Martin’s, Chris Savill, said the presentation was a great improvement on that which was presented to the Finance Audit and Scrutiny Committee at the end of April.

There were also three references made to an up-coming by-election, details of which should be announced today.

There are currently four vacant seats on the Council, three in St Mary’s ward and one in Bryher.
