It is hoped as many gig crews as possible will accompany a crew of wounded service veterans on the final leg of their epic journey on Friday.

The Great Big Cornish Gig Project reaches its conclusion this weekend when the Help for Heroes crew take possession of the pilot gig H4H Valiant to take part in the 27th World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly.

The boat was built by wounded, injured and sick serving and veteran forces personnel and was rowed from Sennen to Tresco by the service veterans crew on 17th April in a journey time of just over 8 hours.

This was the eighth stage of a journey that began in Falmouth on 2nd April.

H4H Valiant will arrive on Town beach by the slipway at 11am on Friday 29th April, where it will be officially handed over by the National Maritime Museum Cornwall to Help for Heroes.

Andy Wyke, Boat Collection Manager at the National Maritime Museum said: “We’d like to see as many crews as possible row out to meet her on the trip from Tresco to St Mary’s and escort her and the crew to Town Beach.”
