There has been much press recently about the upcoming book by Sergeant Colin Taylor, but there is another book just out on the islands.

How to Wear a Scarf is a small book produced by Liz Askins, a silk painter based at the Phoenix Craft Studio in the Porthmellon Industrial Estate.

Liz said: “A lot of people have come in and said ‘I love scarves but they never look right because I don’t know how to tie them properly’.

“I also have Scilly Scarves on Pinterest and I had a board with instructions on how to tie a scarf and that was my most frequently repinned item so I thought there was a need and I designed a book.”

The art of tying a scarf comes down to learning a series of moves and the book has around a dozen exercises on how to tie a variety of scarves, large, square, short, long, etc..

Liz will be carrying out workshops throughout the season so locals and visitors can design their own silk scarf and learn how to tie it properly!
