MEALS ON WHEELS 'DESPERATE' FOR VOLUNTEERS

The St Mary’s Meals on Wheels service desperately seeks volunteers with a vehicle who can spare an hour here and there.

Co-ordinator Ann Davis said: “People can choose when they do it. I normally come up with a form for three months with all the relevant days and it works best if people can do three days twice in a three-month stint.

“I’m quite happy that people only do one stint in three months – we’re just pretty desperate and need as many people as we can.

"And the more people we have, the less your commitment and the more people there are available to swap.”

The role is voluntary although the Council’s Adult Social Care budget will cover expenses for petrol and wear and tear on the vehicle.

Volunteers must also be available at lunchtime, usually between noon and one o’clock

Anne added: ““It’s not a huge commitment and it makes such a difference”
