The entire Board of Governors of Five Islands School are to resign.

Parents were yesterday sent a letter from Chair of Governors Ben Julian outlining the decision.

It reads: 'This morning the Governing Body of the Five Islands School met to consider the post-Ofsted action plan.

'At the meeting, the Governors made the following decisions in the best interests of the school, the children and their education:

1. The Governing Body does not accept the post-Ofsted action plan as presented.

2. The Governing Body invite the LA to invoke their statutory powers to rapidly implement an Interim Executive Board.

3. All members of the current Governing Body give notice that they will resign their posts immediately on formation of the Interim Executive Board.

'This will mean that the LA in discussion with the Diocese and the Regional Schools Commissioner will establish a professionally led body to focus intensely on school improvement.

'The Governing Body will work in the interim to engage with parents and staff to ensure that the developing situation is communicated as effectively as possible.'
