A record seven businesses on the Isles of Scilly have been shortlisted for the 2016/17 Cornwall Tourism Awards.
SEVEN UP FOR SCILLY IN TOURISM AWARDS
Businesses on St Mary’s, St Martins, Tresco and Bryher are up for Gold, Silver or Bronze awards following the extensive three-stage judging process.
They include Juliet’s Garden (Café & Tearoom of the Year) and Carnwethers Country House Cottages (Sustainable Tourism) on St Mary’s, Karma St Martins (Dog Friendly Business of the Year) and Teania St Martins (Self-Catering Property of the Year); Hell Bay Hotel on Bryher (Hotel of the Year) and Tresco Spa (Spa & Wellbeing Experience).
The World Pilot Gig Championships is also up for the Tourism Event of the Year, while the islands’ Tourist Information Centre was Highly Commended.
Robin Barker, Director of Services for Tourism who runs the awards programme, said: “The Isles of Scilly have really punched above their weight this year, a reflection of the ever increasing quality of the leading tourism businesses on the islands.
“Having seven finalists - more than ever before - and a highly commended entry in this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards is a real coup, and all concerned are to be warmly congratulated.”
Finalists will find out who has won the awards at a ceremony at the Headland Hotel in Newquay on November 3. The successful businesses will then enter the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2017 and possibly be invited to represent Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the National VisitEngland Awards.
In other awards news, the Star Castle hotel has won a Gold award in the Best Restaurant category at the 2016 Taste of the West Awards.
