The Morel family have finished their bike ride from John O’Groats to Land's End, raising more than £2,000 for Alzheimer's Society.

Five Islands School science technician Julian Morel, his wife Michelle and sons Finley, 14, and Shea, 11, made the journey unsupported, camping at night and carrying their gear on their bikes. Both boys carried their own body weight in kit.

The family took four weeks of the school summer holidays to travel around 1,300 miles, stopping off and looking around when the mood took them.

Their stops included Ben Nevis, Loch Ness and Old Trafford.

Explaining their reasons for making the journey, Julian previously wrote on their JustGiving page: "The boys have already lost one grandfather to Alzheimer's and their other grandfather has the onset of dementia.

"They wanted to do something that they love to raise awareness and funds to help support research into finding a cure and support families that have to care for those affected."

The Morels will return to the islands on Wednesday.
