Some 13 Scilly crews will take part in the 2016 Redwing Championships this week.

The two-person dinghies with their picturesque red sails will be in action from Monday through to next weekend, when the event will coincide with the Islands' Regatta.

Alongside the local crews, competitors from Devon, Oxford, South Wales and Brittany will take to the water for the Championships, the fourth to the held on Scilly since 2004.

The racing was originally scheduled to begin yesterday but adverse weather has pushed the start back to tomorrow.

Races will now take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with a day off on Wednesday. Redwings will also take part in the Round the Island race as part of the Islands' Regatta next Saturday.

Redwings are traditional one-design clinker-built14 ft. (4.27m) racing dinghies sailed by a crew of two.
