Fire crews battled a large tyre blaze on Tresco overnight.

Firefighters from the island were assisted by crews from St Mary's and Bryher to bring the blaze under control.

Reports of the fire were called in at around 1.30am.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service reported at 3am: "Crews have firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using two hosereel jets supplied from a light portable pump. One kilometre of hose has been laid out to the incident."

An update at 6am read: "The fire is now out. A swing shovel was used to spread the fire and crews continued to damp down hot spots to extinguish the fire."

The Tresco blaze comes in the wake of the huge tyre fire in St Erth last week.
