St Mary’s Gig Club is starting a new fundraising lottery.

The monthly draw will raise money for the club alongside other local clubs and charities.

Entrants can win up to £100 or £1,000 each month, as well as a Christmas prize of £2,000 and annual Grand Prize of £10,000.

The lottery's website reads: "Gig rowing is a colourful part of island life for many locals, but it is just one aspect of what makes island living so unique and wonderful. As an isolated community we rely on each other for help, and the Gig Club want to make sure that we are doing our bit.

"The lottery is an opportunity for St Mary's Gig Club to raise much needed funds, but it is also an opportunity help out other clubs, groups or charities.

"We unanimously decided to create a community fund from some of the proceeds of the lottery."

This year, £2,400 (or 5%) of the proceeds will be donated to the community fund, which will in turn make contributions to the off-island gig clubs, the Isles of Scilly Judo Club and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Entry is £2 per month, with a minimum one-year subscription costing £24, including the two additional draws. The total number of entries is limited to 2,000.

The draw will take place on the first of each month, starting on October 1.
