Planning permission has been granted for a proposed park and ride facility for Scillonian III passengers on agricultural land near Lelant.
The Cornishman reported that Cornwall Council representatives for Penzance and the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company were against the application while some councillors raised concerns about the fact the application was set for Grade 2 agricultural land.
Grade 2 agricultural land is basically of good quality with minor limitations which affect crop yield, cultivation or harvesting.
The application was passed by Cornwall Council's Strategic Planning Committee on Thursday by eight votes for, seven against and two abstentions.
The land will revert to agricultural use between November and March should the proposed scheme go ahead.
