AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO 475 INCIDENTS IN PAST YEAR
The Isles of Scilly ambulance team responded to 475 incidents last year.
Between April 1, 2015 and March 31, 2016, there were 83 callouts on the off-islands and 393 on St Mary's, an average of 1.3 calls per day.
Some 298 ended with the patient being taken to emergency departments at Treliske or Derriford hospitals on the mainland.
At the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting on July 5, councillors praised the local ambulance service. Cllr Avril Mumford said that she had witnessed an incident on Bryher when the first responders arrived in just seven minutes and the medical launch in 12.
The South West Ambulance service operates one Rapid Response Vehicle, a Double Crew Ambulance and the Ambulance Boat Star of Life on Scilly from St Mary's and teams of volunteer First Responders throughout the off islands.
