A new shuttle bus service from Cornwall airport in Newquay to Truro may prove a lifeline to Scilly residents with hospital appointments on the mainland.

The shuttle, which will run throughout the day from Monday to Saturday until September 3, will stop at Truro train station, as well as Treliske hospital when requested.

Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for transport, Bert Biscoe, said of the new scheme: “Many people, not least our neighbours and friends on the Isles of Scilly, have expressed frustration at the problems getting from the airport to Truro and back again.

"For the Scillonians this is not a luxury item - it’s often about getting to a hospital appointment.”

The Council’s cabinet member for resources Adam Paynter added: “We hope this new service will be well used by travellers, especially those from the Isles of Scilly, some of whom have experienced problems getting from the Airport to Truro for hospital appointments and specifically asked us to find a solution.”

Cornwall Council developed the scheme in partnership with Cornwall Airport Newquay and Coastline Travel, the airport's official taxi partner.

If it proves popular, the service will continue to operate after the pilot ends on September 3.
