COUNCIL SENDS CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY OF 'PRINCIPLED' MP
The Council of the Isles of Scilly has sent its condolences to the friends and family of Jo Cox.
The Labour MP was murdered on June 16 in the West Yorkshire village of Birstall, where she had been due to hold a constituency surgery.
The Town Hall flag will be at half mast until Monday afternoon.
The Authority said in a statement: "The Council of the Isles of Scilly has joined with authorities across the UK in lowering the Union Flag as a mark of respect following the tragic murder of Jo Cox MP.
"Our thoughts are with her family and friends. The country has lost a highly talented and deeply principled individual."
Chairman Amanda Martin added: "The death of Jo Cox has appalled everyone. A wonderful mother, wife, politician and activist has been killed in the most violent and senseless way.
"Our country functions on the principle that we should respect each other’s opinions - Jo Cox was the embodiment of what is truly good in our country. A tragic waste of an amazing person’s life."
