PRIZES UP FOR GRABS FOR LOCAL AND VISITING DOGS
The annual dog show gets under way tomorrow with awards offered across ten classifications.
The event, organised by the Isles of Scilly Vet Support Group, features categories such as Waggiest Tail and Dog Most Like Its Owner in addition to the overall prize for Best In Show.
This year's entrants will include Ruby the Singing Terrier, Britain's Got Talent participant and narrator of the book 'The Isles of Scilly: Ruby's Fun Guide'.
Karrie Skaife of the IOSVSG said: "We feel the Dog Show has become an island tradition that visitors and locals alike look forward to. It's just a happy afternoon with a bit of a village fete type atmosphere. It's also very inclusive. We want people to join in and enjoy it, whether they have a dog or not."
The Show raises valuable funds for the Vet Support Group's work on the islands, allowing them to buy and maintain equipment as needed. It recently funded an X-ray machine and previously helped finance the new surgery.
Last year's Best In Show was husky Hank, owned by a visitor from the Cotswolds.
Other attractions include a cake stall manned by the WI, a raffle and a stall selling pet-related goods.
Regular MC Kevin Leeman will commentate on the proceedings for the last time.
The Show starts at 2.30pm in the Surgery Field and costs £2 per class, which is paid on entry to the ring. Rosettes are awarded to the top five dogs in each category.
Karrie added that the group hope to attract more supporters to help with their work. Islanders and visitors can fill out a one-off form authorising a direct debit of just £10 per year.
