THIS IS SCILLY LAUNCHED
We aim to provide relevant information for those who are already here, whether living here or on holiday, those who would like to visit and those who would like to live and work here either permanently or temporarily.
Furthermore, we aim to provide the information you seek within three clicks.
The site is a constant work in progress so your suggestions and feedback are welcomed either by email to , on the Facebook page or in person at the office in Porthcressa.
The site offers free advertising for job vacancies, accommodation to rent, accommodation wanted, events and announcements such as birthday and anniversary wishes or any form of congratulatory message or appeal for more members to your club so let This is Scilly help to spread the word on your behalf.
Organisations and individuals, especially those on the off-islands, are welcome to submit a news article, which will have your name attached to it. It might be based around a press release or a review of an event, whatever, simply send a minimum 300 words and a relevant photograph and it will be published.
Written contributions by way of articles and opinion pieces are welcomed on all things relating to Scilly from why you are for or against Sunday flying, for example, to holiday memoirs so please, residents and visitors, write in with your ideas and, most importantly, your news.
There are literally tens of thousands of people who love the Isles of Scilly, many of whom are not on Facebook or Twitter and want regular news and information updates and these sources of information, whether online, on air or in print must be trusted and accountable for their actions. The level of support this website receives will determine people’s trust and ensure accountability.
This is Scilly will report anything considered of value to readers without bias or sensation. The site is not pro-any business, organisation or individual. This is Scilly is pro-Scilly and issues that do not exist will not be created.
Responsible news reporting helps to sustain the interest of previous visitors long after their stay and engages potential new visitors so it has a big part to play in promoting the islands and encouraging more people to visit.
We therefore hope This is Scilly is embraced positively and will become a community effort that is a valuable complement to the current tourism marketing strategy and enhances the overall communications output of local businesses and organisations by getting your message out there and directing people to your websites and events.
To help the site become established, likes on the Facebook page and links from your website to the home page or news page will be greatly appreciated.
